Summer is almost over

Summer is Almost Over

School will be back in session on Monday, August 24th. Be sure to watch for children and obey school zone speed limits.

LEWISVILLE SCHOOL ZONE FACTS

· There are 16 school zones composed of 61 roadways.
· The police department employs 33 crossing guards.
· Thirty-one of the 33 crossing guards will be returning from last year.
· Nine crossing guards have over five years experience.
· The police department will average eight officers on special assignment in the school zones the first two weeks of school. Traffic Officers and Neighborhood Resource Officers will be pulled from their regular assignments to work school zones mornings and afternoons.
· Except for the school zone for Killian Middle school, which is 35 MPH along FM 544, the speed limit during school zones within Lewisville is 20 MPH.
· Each elementary school is assigned a patrol officer to act as a liaison between the school and the police department. The officers visit the school regularly and usually have stickers, pencils or other goodies to hand out the children. Lt. Casey Carter oversees the elementary school liaison officers.

The maximum fine for speeding in a school zone plus court cost is $326.00. The cost increases to $526 if the school zone is also a work zone.
